The Yorkshire Police Scientific Support Unit provides modern, functional, high-tech offices and laboratories, for crime scene analysis.
Named after Sir Alec Jefferys, who invented DNA fingerprinting, this state-of-the-art building serves all four of Yorkshire’s police forces, providing fingerprint development laboratories and forensic science laboratories with clean room facilities.
Using our Architectural and Sustainability expertise we designed The BREEAM Excellent Building which incorporates ground source heat pumps, sedum roof covering, natural ventilation, and water recycling. The modern and crisp design features drums which rise through the building within the atrium to create an entrance.
The unit is now home to over a million fingerprint files, including those of the Yorkshire Ripper and houses cutting-edge technology to examine forensic evidence helping the police piece together what happened.
“RBS provided a professional, innovative, responsive, flexible and friendly service, nothing was ever too much trouble, they were always available, delivered to extremely tight timescales, very enjoyable to work with and, I have no hesitation in recommending their services.”
